New Cover Band

December was shaping up to be a slow month for this here musician. No Woeful Ones shows, no solo shows and only one Sofa Kings show. Then, the Sofa Kings show got canceled. That's okay, I joined Steve for a Toys For Tots Benefit at Sacred Grounds instead. We were Steve Vaclavik and the Woeful One. It was fun. Also, Tim from Sofa Kings and I have joined a new cover band called GC on the Rocks. We auditioned a couple weeks ago and they love us (of course) so we'll be playing our first show this Friday at Raccoons. That's in Brandon I think. We are getting together this Wednesday for our one and only practice before the show. I believe that we have two more shows lined up this month, the 26th and the 31st, but don't quote me on that. We also got a couple nights at the Hard Rock offered to us for February. Hopefully this band will be more active and there will be more opportunities play out.

By the way, Happy Holidays to everyone reading this. All three of you.

Music for Produce

This past Sunday a few of us Woeful Ones played at Sweetwater Farm. What a cool experience. My wife & I have been wanting to start growing our own food for a while now but we've had a difficult time getting started. The farm was pretty inspirational. One minute you are driving through Tampa, the next you are in the woods, surrounded by organic produce and chickens. We played music for a nice little audience who tipped us pretty well and we got a bunch of fresh, organic produce when we were finished.

This coming weekend is a big one. On Friday night The Sofa Kings return to The Slug. If you've never been there you are missing out. Come hang out while we rock the house. As a bonus you'll almost certainly get to hear Chris, the Slug's owner, do his world famous Eddie Vedder impersonation.

Saturday, the Woeful Ones return to Skipper's Smokehouse for another amazing night of music. This time we'll be pulling out the protest songs, one of which is I've Lost All Faith, which is featured on the WMNF compilation cd that this show is celebrating.

Hope to see you out this weekend.

LIVE TV!!!

So now that I've been playing with The Woeful Ones for a year, and we've been trying (okay, Steve has been trying) to really get ourselves out there and promote ourselves, we've managed to take a few steps in the right direction. Promotion-wise, the biggies have been radio appearances. We were on the WMNF 88.5's Tuesday Sonic Detour as a full band with host Amy Snider and also Steve & I went on WMNF's morning show. I also booked us (Steve, Jay & myself) on USF Bull's Radio's Grassroots Groove with hosts James & Trey (I also made an appearance on the Groove solo). All three were great fun and great promotion. Today we took another step. This morning Steve, Jaybone & yours truly made an appearance on the local Tampa Bay television network's show Studio 10. We had a lot of fun, even though we did have a bit of a technical issue. We played my song "Caterpillars" and while the end credits of the show ran we played a bit of one of Steve's new songs, "Bury Me With My Boots On", which apparently got stuck in Mark, the sound guy's head, because he kept singing it with an imitation drawl ala Steve. If you weren't able to check it out live and you forgot to set the DVR, you can check out the archives. Big thanks to hosts Holley Sinn & Jerome Ritchey and sound man Mark.
